After 52 years, Marianna retired from the Blue Earth First National Bank in 2003. Additionally, she had been a member of the Minnesota Bankers Association for 50 years, served as the Treasurer of the Blue Earth Concert Association since its inception, served as Treasurer of the United Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the Riverside Country Club, had previously been a member of the Assisi Residence Board and a volunteer at United Hospital. A long-term member of the Blue Earth Trinity Lutheran Church, Marianna served as treasurer for nine years, taught Sunday school, was a member of the Ladies Aid and served on Trinity’s Endowment Committee.
Mesothelioma is a relatively rare form of cancer that is strongly associated with exposure to asbestos. In some cases, it can be difficult to determine the source of asbestos exposure. Office workers were sometimes exposed to the toxic fibers when their offices were renovated because repairs and remodeling can disturb asbestos-containing materials and release the fibers into the air. Sometimes, family members were exposed to asbestos inadvertently when it was brought into the house on work clothes.
